Late Donations Help Meet Holiday Needs
Over the last few days emotions have run high at the Food Bank as 156 adults and children benefited from day one of the annual holiday meal program. Day 2 is tomorrow. There were stories of need, “I just lost my job,” of thanks, “ I havea turkey for Christmas, I can hardly breathe,” and the smiles of children who got a small box of cookies. A young father, at the Food Bank for the first time, nervous but most appreciative, could not say thank you enough times.
There was also giving, a helping hand from our friends at Weis Markets in Hillsborough who gave us paper shopping bags to tide us over (running out would be disastrous) and a most generous contribution from Catlin Underwriting. Pictured is Mr. Joe Horan, of Catlin US and members of his family who brought bags of food, along with Executive Director Marie Scannell, with tears of gratitude as we were overwhelmed by the unexpected and most appreciated example of giving to the community.
None of this would be possible without the ongoing support we get from the hundreds of individuals and groups who bring food and send checks and the many volunteers who sort, bag and deliver to those in need.
