At the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, we cull and rotate our inventory to make certain the foods that we distribute are safe to consume. While some of our items may be past their “Sell by,” “Use by” or “Best by” dates, they are still quite safe to eat for a period of time past these dates. We carefully follow guidelines laid out by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and industry recommendations to determine when to discard foods because of possible spoilage.
